Kittys

I found a cute pattern on Youtube. It's cats in crochet. Now the example given in the video is with three colors but I only had 2 different colors in the same size to work with. I was thinking it would make a cute pillow cover for my 'Kat'.

I still have to finish my daughter's blanket. Even though she'll be 8 months soon. I honestly, got bored working on it. But I think the mindless monotony is what I need right now. I can't seem to concentrate on any of my tatting projects.

Wow, really..

So much time has past since my last post. Not really, but so much has been going on that it feels like years instead of weeks. I suppose have a newborn in the house throws your clock off. I have started the next 'arched row' of the blanket. I also began a granny square in the bamboo thread because I got bored working on my daughter's blanket. What a difference the stitches make in weight. The granny square is coming along alot faster and I plan on just keep going until it reaches blanket size for my son. It's only fair he get one as well. I suppose because the stitches are more spread out, the square is turning out significantly lighter than the other blanket. You could compare the granny to a summer throw and the blanket to a winter blanket. That's the best analogy I have for weight comparison.

Here we have a size comparison of the blanket's progress. It's draped across my toshiba satellite laptop. It's going by pretty quickly even if the repeatition can get very boring at times. I only work on it for about half an hour every other second day. The demands of a new baby don't give me much free time right now.

Branching out

I thought of branching out in the crochet area. This is my first attempt of making some baby sized Mary Janes. I joined wrong somehow, and the opening turned out alot smaller that it should have. It still slides over my daughter's foot but just barely. I made this with some sock thread I bought because I like the verigation on the thread when it was wound up. I'm not really feeling it in actual use.

Current progress on the blanket. It's a little over 1/3 completed. So far I've used about 3 skeins of bamboo thread. It may be more or less, since I started by using up reclaimed thread from the Welcome Home blanket and the bits of tangled thread my son lovely left me. So I don't have an accurate measure of thread use. I did place a stitch marker on it where I joined to the newest ball of thread. At least this was I know exactly how far each one will go. I have four more balls set aside before I have to buy more. There's about 62 rows on it now

My first design

That "welcome home" blanket was pretty much abandoned. I started another project with the only idea being "shells". I did a basic chain after the starter chain then did the shells. I wanted to make sure I had a solid base to at least have the option of adding an edging to it later.
I didn't count any of it, just kind of winged it and went as far as I thought would be suitable for a baby. After a few rounds of shells I became bored with it so I switched it up a little by adding a 'bridging' area.
I liked the fact it reminded me of little hearts so I did a couple of rows then went back to the shelling. None of it was really planned but I love the way it's turning out. The only problem with this is going to be weight. Even though I'm using size 10 bamboo thread, the current piece is already getting very heavy for a baby to use. Or maybe it's just my way of thinking.
When I started this I was working width wise but after calculating how far one skein of thread takes me, I decided the width is now the length. It's almost the same length as a regular receiving blanket so no biggie. I figure the width should be 2/3 the length and right now, I'm almost at a third of that.
There was a bit of an issue on keeping it even as I went from the bridged area to the shelled area and on one side it isn't completely even. So in the end I will have to do some kind of edging to bring it all together evenly. With all the work I'm putting into this, I plan it to become an heirloom piece.
