Mermaid Tears

I gave the crocidile stitch another try with some thicker crochet thread. I started with size 10 black. I quickly ran out of that color since the ball was already mostly used up on previous projects. I like the speed this is working up much better. I was going to put it up until I had a chance to get more thread, but I knew it would never get finished if I did that. I had two balls of blue in the same size so I added that in. I feel it gives it a very nice contrast.

My poor fingers

After two restarts I finally got it going. The pattern is by Bernat yarn but this is being made with some size 30 crochet thread. My mother picked up four balls of this DMC thread from a second hand shop. The balls were all new.

The crocidile stitch is not a hard stitch to do...once you have it going. I kept getting my base chain twisted. Imagine spending hours on the base and first round of double crochets only to have to rip them out because it twists.

I'm quadrupling the original pattern to get a decent sized bag out of it. I could have made this faster with the yarn but I was curious to see how it will look in finer thread.

Cupcake bag

Finding another video tutorial this time it was a cupcake bag. The example is made small, but the pattern can be adapted in size. I wanted to make one but had no real use for it. Then I thought to make a larger one and have it be a trick-o-treat bag for my youngest.

I got carried away with the size. It's kinda big for her to be carrying, she's only a year old. Then I thought for the frosting part of the top, I'd use this crocidile stitch I saw on another tutorial. I started two rounds, and while I love the effect, it's quickly becoming heavy. So I had to stop at two rounds. Since it was turning into a weird oblong shaped thing, I decided to square off the top.

My Honey says it looks like a hat and here he is demonstrating.

Toys

I was taking a break from my tatting and ran across a youtube video of crochet toys. There was one that used simple stitches so I decided to try it out. Here is the results:

It was made with size 20 Aunt Lydias crochet thread. It was harder to make because the thread was thin and in the video they used yarn. The directions were very easy to follow. Sometimes it's a wonderful thing to have visual aids when you are working a project.
